The Great Wall of China, it really does deserve its name. Its such a great heritage for the chinese people a reminder of of their roots. I was in awe through out. I climbed the Badaling section of the wall in Beijing. My friends and I were so lucky, see, it had rained on the morning of the day we decided to climb the wall, so normally many people might decide to not climb the wall on a rainy day, and so therefore, when we got to the wall, there wasn’t a long queue, later on the number of tourists started to increase but by then, we were already on the wall. yayy!
Subway-change subway-bus to the wall. Not really helpful right? Get a subway map, I stayed in Beijing for five days and by the 2nd day I could go around by myself, it’s much easier than Xian, since the subway goes almost everywhere, with some mobile wifi, you can navigate yourself. I think Beijing is very tourist friendly as many signs were in English, so it wasn’t difficult getting around. If you plan on climbing from the Badaling section, this would help: http://www.badalinggreatwall.com/
Going up, we used the cable car. If you’re a student, remember to take along your ID Cards, so as to get discounted tickets.
The Great was simply fantastic, this can be considered as hiking also. The views were breathtaking, the steps quite steep, wear good shoes. Here’s one thing I got from climbing the Great wall, the only way down is up. Yo can’t just come down whenever you’re tired, there are specific entrance and exit points, so if you plan on climbing the wall, go fully prepared. We were on the wall for about 4 hours, I had great company, you wont see them in the pictures, am saving those for myself. That’s about it, below I’ll be sharing more pictures of the Great Wall, do Enjoy!
I’ve seen a few blog posts and pictures from those who went to other sections of the wall, my pictures here don’t really do it much justice, from comparing the pictures from different places, badaling in my opinion has the more breathtaking views, regardless of where you go, as long as its the Great Wall, do have fun!
