Ah A taste of Korea. You know the other thing about foods that aren’t originally from the current country of stay is that they allow you a glimpse into what you would experience should you visit those countries.
Today am going to write my two cents about bibimpap and topokki, two popular korean dishes, I was opportuned to have this at the Zing Korean Restaurant, Debrecen Hungary
Address: 98. Nagyerdei krt. Debrecen 4032, Dote Dorm 2, OEC West Hotel Basement
Opening Times: Monday – Saturday 11:00 – 15:00, 17:00 – 21:00
Topokki (Fish cake)
This is one of the more popular Korean foods, It is made mainly from fishcake or rice cake.
The serving was generous and good spicy. I must admit that this Korean soup, the one I had with this meal is the best Asian soup I’ve ever had. The closest thing I’ve had to topokki before this meal were japanese rice cakes, mochi, so I thought I had an idea of what to expect, eh they are not so similar, both are chewy and that’s it.
Topokki is more…., I lack words. Its not like meat, well its not meat, not like fish or rice either, its just topokki!
My only complaint was the amount of topokki was too small, the stew had tofu and other veggies but I think I would have been too full with more topokki, well it doesn’t matter, it was still too small.
Bibimpap (Mixed Rice)
I went with a friend the second time who suggested bibimpap and am sure glad I followed her recommendation.
This seemed small at first, until the meal was over. You have to thoroughly mix up everything, the red pepper paste was daebak! ( awesome in Korean). The meal was also spicy, good spicyIn general, the service was great, straightforward and prompt. I love that the water and tea come free of charge. Even the dishes in which the meals were served are traditional Korean dishes. The prices are student friendly, most of the items on the menu are under 2000ft ( which is about 7 USD)
The servings were generous,I was full after every meal, literally. If you find yourself in Debrecen, craving for Korean food or Asian food in general, this is the place to go to.
What has your experience of Korean food or Asian meals being like?
